Bhandup Educational Society, which is a minority institution established in 1965 running a school from K.G to High School since June 1965. The Society established V.K. Krishna Menon College of Commerce & Economics in June 1982, and in June 1992 Science stream was added to it. Both streams are aided and affiliated to University of Mumbai. Formerly the college was known as B.E.S College of Commerce & Economics and on 14-03-1987, the then Vice-President of India Late R. Venkataraman named the College as V.K Krishna Menon College in the distinguished presence of Late Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then Governor of Maharashtra. The Society started the Junior College of Commerce in June, 1983 and Junior College of Science in June, 1989. The College started BSc. (Computer Science) and m.com in June 2005 and Bachelor of Management Studies in June 2009 and all are run on unaided basis. The Science stream was named as Sharad Shankar Dighe College of Science at the hands of Smt. Vasanti Sharad Dighe on 03/01/2009. The schools were named as P A Menon English High School, P A Menon Primary School and P A Menon Kinder Garten School. On 04-10-2019, a bust of our Founder Adv. P.A Menon was unveiled in the college campus by Dr. N. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, Indian Council of Gandhian Studies, New Delhi. This bust is a reminder of Menonji’s selfless and unwavering commitment and his principled and single minded focussed dedication over a life time to create, build and shape career and destinies. We, all the students and the staff owe him a depth of gratitude. P.A. Menon College of Legal Studies is situated in Bhandup East and is opposite to Bhandup Railway station.

The Primary School grew into a High School in 1969 and sent the first batch of SSC students in 1975. The year 1982 saw the birth of B.E.S. College of Commerce & Economics which was allowed to be started by the Government of Maharashtra, on aided basis on the request of Late Shri Sharad Shankar Dighe. In June, 1983, the Society started the Junior College of Commerce and Science faculty was added to the Junior College in 1989 and the Senior College in June, 1992, all on aided basis. The academic year 2005 saw the commencement of B.Sc. Computer Science, M.Com. and in 2006, B.M.S. was added.

With around 240 students with two divisions on roll at the start, in the Senior College, in June, 1982, and with 240 students Junior College in June 1983, the college registered a marked growth and today the combined strength of the students stand at 3000. The college was permanently affiliated to Mumbai University in respect of both commerce and science. The college was assessed and accredited by the NAAC with 'B' Grade.

The qualitative growth of the college finds expression in the performance in the final examinations. Since 1987, the SSC students gets 100% result every year. Now the HSC students get 100%, B.Com. 98%, B.Sc. Computer Science 95%, B.M.S. 95% and M.Com. 90%. The qualitative growth could further be read in the adoption of Bhagawat Geeta as the Dictionary of life by the society and in the translation of its principles of life in the day to day life of all the institutions run by the society. To accelerate the march to perfection, the principles of Transparency, Equal Treatment and Equal Justice, Discipline and Quality were made to run into all the aspects of life of the institutions. True to its tradition, no donation is taken in admission to any institution. To make the qualitative development water-tight, the management set up the Centre of Gandhian Studies and Action with Advocate P.A. Menon as Chairman, in collaboration with Indian Council of Gandhian Studies, New Delhi and inaugurated the centre on the occasion of the 129th Mahatma Gandhiji on 02-10-2007, with the presentation of Auto-Biography of Gandhiji to all the staff of the institution. The only object of the Centre is to bring home to every one the Gandhian vision of social transformation and individual empowerment. The centre organized a seminar on Centenary of the Satyagraha Movement of Gandhiji on 22-12- 2007, and a seminar on Gandhiji's vision of Education to meet Terror and Violence on 30- 01-2009 and does every year.

To perpetuate the memory of late V.K.Krishna Menon, the society got the commerce college named as V.K.Krishna Menon College of Commerce and Economics on 13-03-1987 by the late R. Venkataraman, then Vice President of India, at a function presided over by late Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, then Governor of Maharashtra. Justice K Sukumaran, then Judge of the Bombay High Court inaugurated the Science college on 04-07-1992. Smt. Vasanti Sharad Dighe named the science college as Sharad Shankar Dighe College of Science in the distinguished presence of Dr. Vijay Kolhe, Vice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai at a function presided over by Gandhian Scholar, Dr. N Radhakrishnan, Chairman, Indian Council of Gandhian Studies, New Delhi on 03-01-2009.

It is in the fitness of things to mention that the chairman of the society Shri. P.A.Menon who has made a study of physiognomy and palmistry has been giving free advice to the students and staff, on their past, present and future, to enable them to march to perfection. Many students, staff and parents have availed of the service. He is offering free service as a counsellor to the college family.

On 03-11-2009, V.K.Krishna Menon College and B.E.S. Junior College celebrated the college Silver Jubilee under the chairmanship of Dr. N. Radhakrishnan, Gandhian, when Dr.Vijay Kolhe, Vice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai was the Chief Guest. Bhandup Educational Society and all the educational institutions run by it are destined to march to the goal of perfection with the blessing of Almighty God which is the only source of inspiration and strength. In the long fruitful march to perfection, late Panampilli Govinda Menon, former Union Law Minister, late Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India and late Madhukarrao Choudhari, former Education Minister, Maharashtra have blessed the society.

P.A. Menon College of Legal Studies is established in June 2024 and is situated in Bhandup East, opposite to Bhandup Railway station.
